GALLERIA GJUTARS | HERWIG GEROLDINGER | ABOUT BUTTERFLIES | 25.-28.8.2026

In the exhibition 'About Butterflies' Herwig Geroldinger presents paintings created during his stay in Finland. Within the tension between new impressions and memories, his work brings together close observation of nature, personal perception, and questions concerning the relationship between human beings and the environment.

His art combines close observation of nature with artistic expression and draws attention to the fragile beauty and particular significance of the insect world. Fascinated by the world of insects since early childhood, Geroldinger places this theme at the center of his artistic practice. He does not approach insects from a scientific or natural-history perspective, but rather presents them as independent artistic counterparts. His works explore their fragility, adaptability, and importance to ecological balance. By deliberately placing insects at the center of his works, Geroldinger also draws attention to species extinction and the resulting changes to our natural habitats.

Herwig Geroldinger lives and works in Salzburg/Austria. He studied painting and graphic arts at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg and completed an artist residency in Brazil. Geroldinger has presented his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Austria and internationally over many years.
