GALLERIA GJUTARS | LIDIIA HOLOSKO | BETWEEN SHADOW AND MEMORY | 23.-27.9.2026

In the exhibition Between Shadow and Memory Lidiia Holosko brings together mezzotint works made between 2023 and 2026, tracing the unstable space between lived experience and its afterlife in memory.

At its core is an inquiry into what remains when an event can no longer be contained within the moment of its occurrence. War enters the exhibition as a condition that alters our relationship to time, place, the body, and the possibility of imagining a future. Memory becomes less a record of what happened than a material presence: fragmented, embodied, and continually reactivated.

Holosko's works move through the tension between destruction and persistence, vulnerability and desire, absence and renewal. The land, the body, and the traces of human labour emerge as sites where private experience intersects with collective history. Within this space, intimacy is not separate from trauma; it becomes one of the ways life asserts itself against it.

Holosko's use of mezzotint provides the exhibition with both its visual language and its conceptual logic. Built from darkness towards light through an intensely physical process, the medium resists immediacy. Images appear as if recalled rather than represented, hovering between visibility and disappearance.

Between Shadow and Memory considers the image as a site of residue: what survives, what returns, and what cannot fully be brought into language.
