Björg Eiríksdóttir works across a range of media, placing nature and the relationship between human beings and their environment at the core of her practice.
In this exhibition, Björg focuses on the body and the sensory experience of being in nature - and being nature. Her work explores the possibility of perceiving ourselves as intimately entangled with other living beings rather than separate from it. By dissolving boundaries, she seeks a deeper understanding of what it means to exist within an ecosystem. Through layering, proximity, and duration, in painting and video, motifs from different kingdoms of life are interwoven into a shared, shifting field of experience.
Björg was enrolled in the master's programme in Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Porto, during the winter of 2020–2021. She completed an MA in Art Education at the University of Akureyri, in 2017, graduated from the Akureyri School of Visual Arts in 2003, and earned a B.Ed. from the Iceland University of Education in 1991. Since 2003, she has worked as an artist alongside her teaching practice. She has taught art at the Comprehensive College of Akureyri and art education at the Iceland University of the Arts. She has held 15 solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions.
